Three of the biggest names of India Inc - ADA Group Managing Director Gautam Doshi,Unitech Wireless MD Sanjay Chandra and DB Group Promoter Vinod Goenka - have spent a night behind bars along with Reliance executives Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara.

The Patiala House Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of all the five accused in the 2G scam case. The special CBI court had also ordered that they be taken into judicial custody with immediate effect.
The Delhi High Court will hear their bail plea on Thursday.
"Even our interim bail plea has been rejected," said Vinod Goenka's lawyer Vijay Agarwal.

All five persons, accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating and abetment to cheating, had applied for bail on the grounds that they had cooperated with CBI during investigations and the CBI had not arrested them during the course of investigations. Moreover, since they had come to court when special CBI judge summoned them, they should not be arrested.

But the CBI opposed the bail plea and expressed apprehension that the accused were powerful and can influence witnesses and tamper with evidence.The CBI also said that it fears the accused can abscond impeding investigations.

Special CBI judge OP Saini, in his order, said that given the magnitude of the charges against Doshi, Chandra and others, he was inclined to agree with the CBI and therefore not grant bail.
"They are free to move for bail now...whenever they want," said CBI lawyer AK Singh.

The order had immediate impact. Norwegian company Telenor, which in collaboration with Unitech had launched Uninor in India, has requested Sanjay Chandra to step down from Unitech Wireless. Shares of Reliance Communication also took a dip at the Dalal Street.

Vinod Goenka moved for bail to Delhi High Court within minutes of the trial court order and other accused also follow suit. But given the Supreme Court's strong observation on how trial in this case should be conducted, it's likely that the big bosses of telecom will have to spend a few nights at Tihar - giving company to former telecom minister A Raja.
