Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C16) today. PSLV-C16 launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, India.

About PSLV – C16:

  • PSLV-CI6 is the 18th flight of ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV
  • PSLV is 44 meter high weighing 294,000 kgs.
  • In this flight, the standard version of PSLV with six solid strap-on motors is used.
  • It can carry payload of 1600 kg to Sun-Synchronous orbit.
  • PSLV has 4 stages and uses Solid Fuel namely Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)
  • PSLV-CI6 will place 03 satellites with a total payload mass of 1404 kg –
RESOURCESAT-2 weighing 1206 kg,The Indo-Russian YOUTHSAT weighing 92 kg and Singapore’s X-SAT weighing 106 kg – into an 822 km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO)

Other remote sensing satellites scheduled for launch this year by ISRO are Megha-Tropiques, Radar Imaging Satellite-1 (RISAT-1) and Saral.
