    BT

    Estimated Ship Date
Sep 26, 2006 (wow that date looks familiar?!?!)

    Arrival Date
    Oct 3, 2006

A full week delivery time seems like a bit of long wait for someone who is ordering a MBP.

Why cant they send it second day for an extra two bucks?

Although I agree that Photakinda seems like the logical date for an update, Im confused who would order a MBP snail mail?

Could you bump that up if you called back and did the overnight gig?

    Just curious.

    Go here...
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/0.RSLID?mco=925997E8&nclm=MacBookPro

Down towards the bottom of that page for the MBP where you read all about the computer and what it does, there's a bolded subheading that reads "It's Showtime." IMac and Mac Mini are the only other systems that offer a similar description, but their description heading says "Put on a Show."

That is a little odd, since they're basically all describing the same thing. Why would the MBP say "It's Showtime" yet the iMac and Mac Mini descriptions use "Put on a Show?" How long have these read this way? Is this old or new? Does it have something to do with tomorrows' event, or nothing at all?

    Hmmm... very intersting.

    Reaching? Coincidence? Apple being coy?

    Some what-was-his-name?-intern...

It's bootable (the, ahem, pirated versions of Lion are distributed as dmgs.)

That doesn't mean the App Store version is. Only that the "pirated" versions are. They could have been made bootable after the fact.

Secondly, the term "3rd world" and "1st world" is offensive. The proper term is developing and developed world.
Yawn. In 5 years, those terms will be "offensive". Then we'll have to call them "mature" and "growing". Then, 20 years later that will be offensive, and we'll have to call them "service oriented" and "industry oriented". Then, 20 years later that will be offensive, and we'll have to call them "1st world" and "3rd world" again. Get off your PC high horse and deal with life straight on instead of hiding behind semantics.

*note: PC does not always refer to computers.

Because those screens WILL look better to those normal customers. Text and graphics will look sharper, and clearer.

The iPhone screen, before the retina screen, had a higher resolution than macs. People could not see individual pixels. Despite that, ask any Tom Dick or Harry on the street, and they will be unequivocal that the Retina screen is far better looking than the 3GS screens.

The iPhone, before the current model had a screen res of 320 x 480

The first iMac, made 13 years ago in 1998 (the G3) had a screen res of 1024x768 the same as an iPad2 they are making today.

The first Apple Mac in 1984, 27 years ago had a screen res of 512342 on a black and white screen.

I don't know where you get your statement than the "iPhone had a higher resolution than macs"

Of course Verizon will wait two years before they decide to adopt it into their lineup.

Ha! Verizon will NEVER carry it.

Anyway I'm on verizon and its been nothing but problems with them for the past year or so. Their 'can you hear me now' network has turned into the 'what? hello? HELLO? *click*' network. I'll be happy to switch if the new phone is not on verizon.

I'm pretty happy with VZW service. Their phones are lousy and crippled, but after trying every other provider, VZW was the only one who had almost perfect service in NYC, and I need reliable service more than I need a shiny phone.

Why is it so hard to believe Apple will add movies to iTunes? They already added short films and TV shows.

I would absolutely love a tablet. I would suggest people not get hung up on what other tablet PCs are out there, because I don't see anything out there that matches what I want, and I've been searching for 3+ years now. MS attempted it, did something miserable and half-assed as usual, and so tablets are called a failure. There were lots of MP3 players around before the iPod too.

I want something that fits the following requirements:

In 5-10 years the iPod will become extinct. By then the touch will be hanging on a thin wire.

Note that MS is dropping the standalone Zune hardware, and moving the Zune interface into Windows Phone 7.

If your phone can do it all, why make standalone music players?

Of course this so called tablet could be several different things a true video iPod, a supered up remote, a UMCP based micro mac. I just find it fun to speculate based on the info at hand:)
    Absolutely. :)

That was why I asked... you were speculating on a full Mac, but in a tablet form. In contrast to a new (and cheaper) device in tablet form (which might appeal to me).

Apple has the mind share and technology to create any new products which fit somewhere between iPods and Macs. The iTV is an excellent example. Will they release some form of Tablet? I think a MacTablet will experience similar popularity to existing tablets. As such, I think a Tablet-Pod (or iTablet or iPad or something) is more likely from Apple and opens more possibilities... I'm not confident they'll release anything SOON though :)

I always expected the four existing lines to go merom. It's pretty much a firmware update away from using existing hardware and the form factors used are more geared towards lower power chips.

Thanks for the tip. How do you feel about the speaker volume on the unit for calls so far? Also, do the navigation instructions come through the car's speakers at all?

I'd still be curious to see how it looks when stuck to the windshield. I've heard some say that it's too hard to see on the windshield.

I'll let you know when I take a call on it. This is really the first day I have had it. I do not have the TomTom kit plugged into my car's stereo so navigation comes through the speaker of the TomTom kit. What I can remember from the user manual (I don't have it with me at the moment), even when the TomTom kit is plugged into your car's stereo via an auxilary cable, calls and navigation instructions will still come from the TomTom kit and not the car stereo. I currently have no way of checking because my car does not have that input in its stereo.

As far as visibility on the windshield...it's going to vary on what type of car you drive and where you place it. I'm assuming you have never had a GPS unit in your car. It takes up just as much space as most other GPS devices.

That's the graphic core onboard the Core i7 die. It doesn't change to ATi graphics when you use something graphically intensive?

As I said in other email, I stopped using it only because I lost my free "employees" license when I left the company that I had bought it for and couldn't justify the 100 + to buy a home license. I'm afraid I found everything else I tried (Norton, McAfee etc) to be very poor alternatives. Eventually settling on ESET NOD32, which while still taking more resources than Sophos, and only having daily updates rather than the minute by minute updates from Sophos, it was still the best of the ones I tried.

I'm still running Sophos AV using an employees license at this moment. Although it never detected any Mac malware, it does find Windows malware from time to time. And it's nice to have this malware removed before I send files to friends, collegues or customers.

It runs smooth on the background and does a decent job. It might not be to crucial on a Mac, but still it's a nice idea my files are protected.

I agree with I student UK using the constraints of / makes it rather ambiguos (did I spell that right) as I originally read it. I believed the 2(9+3) to be in the denominator in which case the answer is clearly 2

You can't assume that 2(9+3) is under the denominator

They way it is explicitly written is interpreted to be (48/2)*(9+3)

That's a Fujitsu ST-5000 series device with a Mac OS X screenshot on top:

I owned one, and they're great tablets. Would love to be off of Windows totally and have a Mac tablet, but there are two important things still holding me on a tablet: handwriting recognition (actually, storing my notes in Ink which is indexed in text) and speech recognition (iListen isn't as good as Dragon Naturally Speaking... even David Pogue who loves Macs has a PC specifically for speech recognition).

Still, if Apple comes out with a tablet, I'd get one.

At a compression value I would accecpt, files will still be to big for the internet of today / average power of a computer today / the HD's of today.

People keep saying things like this. But look at online movie piracy. It's probably as big now as napster was a few years ago. The pirates have proven that people are interested in getting movies online, and that the technological barriers can be overcome.

Unless you have a progressive scan TV, which propbably means an HDTV, DVD is only 480i, which can be argued to be equivalent to 240p. That way Apple can easily claim their movies to be DVD quality at 320x240.

But would that look as good as DVD on NTSC television? Sure doesn't seem like it with the current downloads.

a retina display on the 13" MBP would be the one thing that would get me to upgrade almost immediately.

I'd settle for 1440x900. It's got such an incredibly poor panel for the price point.

The past year my right eye's vision has decreased. Interestingly enough that is around when i got my iphone 4, can lack of my eye working and the phone making it easier make my vision worse? Probably not and just a coincidence.

Anyway i wonder if apple will do the whole "It is a 500$ upgrade for retina" thing or it will just be a thing all mbp's have.

No your just getting old. ;)

The nice thing is it sort of makes each purchase of Lion a Family Pack, by default, since you can install App Store purchase on all machines using the same ID.

    so help me out here..

BTO = anything purchased online? (even if the config doesnt change at all on a MBP) vs. me walking into a store and getting one today?

what im getting at is i would like a Merom MBP but if i want to take advantage of the iPod edu deal i have to buy today, the 16th.

so then if i get the current MBP id have to keep it unopened until the announment on the 24th? then take it back to the store?

if ship dates go into October, when will the stores have em in stock?

does that make any sense :DI think if you risk it, they may let you keep the premiums. I forgot about the deadline today. That would indicate they may announce the new MBPs Tuesday as others have predicted already according to the student Free iPod offer deadline. Thanks for the reminder and good luck.
