The wedding of Varun Gandhi, the scion of Nehru - Gandhi family and the firebrand leader of BJP got married to Yamini Roy Chowdhury a Graphic Designer by profession. The wedding not only bought happiness to the families but also a bahu to the Nehru-Gandhi family after a gap of 37 years.
The wedding took place in a complete Sanatani tradition at the Shri Kashi Kamkotishwar Temple in an early morning function on Sunday. The first Brahmin bride of the Nehru - Gandhi family since Kamala Nehru was ushered with the early morning rituals. The rituals began at 6.30 AM at the Kashi Kamkotishwar temple near Hanuman Ghat with the Shehnai playing in the background and the conch being blown as part of Hindu rituals. Flowers completed the wedding decoration and were flown in from various places like Kolkata and Mumbai.
The wedding has exposed the political differences in Nehru-Gandhi family once again and no member of the Sonia Gandhi's family attended the wedding. The entire wedding ritual was performed without the presence of politicians including those from the BJP. Only Mayor Kausheldra Singh attended the wedding.
Maneka Gandhi, the mother of the groom was the first to reach the venue with Yamini. About half an hour after her arrival, Varun's procession reached the venue. The guests for the wedding were chiefly from families of Maneka and Yamini. The Director General of Punjab Police Rajan Mittal also attended the wedding. There was high speculation that Priyanka Gandhi would attend the wedding but the point has become obvious that no one from Sonia's family attended the wedding.
