My 3GS is working just fine -- I'm more than content to wait for a real refresh to the iPhone (not some garbage update that keeps the same flawed form factor re: antenna and use of a shattering glass back).
Most people claiming they'll switch won't -- rebuying your Apps for the Android marketplace represents a non-insubstantial hidden cost to switching for many people.
The iPhone 4 was a real refresh considering it was the first redesign in 2 years. The 3Gs was a smaller refresh than the iPhone 4 yet you still own one.

Good observation, but as others have said, this won't happen anytime soon. I guessing we'll see a resolution bump in the iPad before we see it in Macs.

Thats because Android users want everything for free. Its so easy to "aquire" apps for your Android device. Why pay? If I was a developer I would stay away from the Android Market. The App Store is where the money is at.

Some people can go grab the disk and be back home much faster than it would take to download all 8 GB. ;)

I would hazard a guess that the thinner facade suggests a lack of optical media drives, or if it does have one, a vertical slot-loader. But I think what with flash drive or Internet distribution, optical media drives aren't really needed any more, even on a Pro machine.
If they made the MacBook Air External Superdrive bootable and compatible with any computer I would welcome the elimination of internal optical drives.

Competition is good! Especially for Apple and their my way or the highway way of doing things. I love my IP4 but Apple needs a kick in their wallet to get them motivated to keep up.

No thanks, that would use a bunch of my 30gb monthly limit (no other options for broadband where i live). I definately would prefer a usb stick or a dvd. At least if its download only I hope they make it easy for me to burn to a standard size disc

I wouldn't be surprised if a MediaMac had the same form factor as the Mac Mini. However, a Media Mac needs 3.5'' HD to keep the price resonable.

What I don't understand is even if it's distributed through the Mac App Store, does Apple expect us to burn it on dvd or make a bootable usb?
I don't know if every mac user will even be able to do that, this may work for those looking to upgrade, but a fresh install will require dvd/usb..
There's no reason Apple couldn't make creating a bootable recovery disk as easy as the installation itself. Make it a menu item in the install software, then ask the user to insert the blank disk.
So will this mean waiting in long lines and trying to beat scalpers?

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is with apple, and it's despicable.
I'm hoping with the next MBP update, they also tweak the enclosure to allow for an easily swappable HDD, like the macbook. It simply isn't fair that a lower end model gets a great feature like that and the higher end gets screwed. I would be sorely disappointed if this did not happen with the update.
Because of return policy issues, I will probably go ahead and get the 5400rpm drive. It seems like much less hassle to stay away from BTO systems if something goes wrong.MovieCutter told me that there is negligible difference in performance between the 5400 and 7200 high capacity dirves and that the 120GB 5400 is a better way to go - lower heat, higher capacity, lower power draw. I'm hoping the top models have a 160GB Seagate inside.
If there is no easy access HD bay in the new 17" 2.33GHz C2D MBP I will not buy one of these and opt for a 2GHz C2D MacBook when it ships or wait for the next 17" MBP revision. I feel so strongly about wanting this feature that I refuse to buy a mobile Mac without it.

Please bring a huge UI overhaul. Lets see something new.
New UI & Grand features is what is to be expected with this update.
We already know that the aqua look is gone. The ios scrollbar shown on Lion is an example of the aqua leaving for good.
I can see lots of the applications such as Safari, Contacts, Calender, mail, ect is going to get a new look.
Very exciting to know that it's coming out this summer!
I honestly think you'll be disappointed.
There doesn't seem to be any inkling of a UI overhaul for Lion, although some spit polish like scrollbar updates are certainly possible.

umm there are a lot of high end Android phones.
Apple sells cheap ass phone as well (iPhone 3GS) so it is in the Kmart shopper market is well.
I would not see that as useful. For a cell phone I would hate iOS but for a portable MP3 player the iPod iOS is great but I would never want it as a phone.
